How much time could be be saved if someone had the foresight to place a simple warning sign at the start: “STOP! Are you looking for the Blog forum (WordPress.com) or the website forum (www.remarpro.com)?”

After (finally) joining the “other one” and posting my question, the answer was that I was in the wrong forum; then the long waste of time to finally get past the ridiculous and unintelligible scrawlings to “make sure I was a person” – hard to believe for a site that specializes in communication.

I suppose many people would know the difference intuitively, but many of us never would have guessed.

  • There is a forum welcome link which says

Before you post, make sure you're posting about a self hosted www.remarpro.com site and NOT a WordPress.com site. If you're not sure, read WordPress.com vs www.remarpro.com.

Where exactly you suggest to have warning ?

If that’s regarding WordPress.com’s forums then you need to address that in WordPress.com’s forums: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/

No it was a reference to the Capcha stuff that must keep heaven only knows how many interested customers out. I wasted an hour on what I referred to above as ridiculous and unintelligible scrawlings.

We only have it on registration for a forum ID here because spammers were out of control. THOUSANDS of accounts an hour ?? We hate it. We HATE it. But we couldn’t keep up.

Not to prolong the discussion, but you may want to inquire why many sites that use the exasperating “protection” of this service have characters that apparently protect them from spammers and yet can be reproduced by honest people on the first or second attempt. I sat through 1/2 hour of smeared lines and other crude blotches trying to guess even one or two characters. Why should your registration be so much more unreasonable than theirs, when many of them have alternate ways to reach them in emergency (email, phone etc.) when, as far as I could discover, you offer none?

One reason may be that www.remarpro.com runs on very limited resources, and there is a big to-do list of improvements that is currently being worked on. Perhaps this is already on there, because it’s no secret that captchas suck.
