“??” showing up in title, but not in post!

  • This is strange and I’m noticing it just now, after having converted my site from MT to WP several months ago. In posts where I use the character ‘??’ (=é) the character is in the actual post in the editscreen, but is not showing up at all when viewing the page. But that same character within the title of that post is OK! (????). An example is found in the post ‘Duifje ????npoot’ on july 10th, where the title is OK, but in the post the ???? is ignored: ‘Aan n poot ontbraken alle tenen’ should have been ‘Aan ????n poot ontbraken alle tenen’.
    I tried to put in those characters again and save the post for a second time, but this doesn’t help. I also changed the characterset once from utf-8 into iso-8859-1, but that doesn’t help either.
    Someone?

    Like I said, the ?? is showing up correctly in the title of the posts (so the encoding must be OK), but within the body of the posts the “??” is ignored (blank space, even in the s0urcecode). In both cases I did n?3t use the safe é -way, but simply typed the ??. This is so with posts that where converted from MT, and also with new posts…

    The easiest solution to this would probably be using UTF-8 from now on and just cleaning up old posts when you get a chance.

    hardly ‘easy’ if a number of archive posts are involved…

    Please stay with me on this one, because it’s annoying ??nd really don’t get it:
    I w??s using UTF-8 all the time since I started with WP a few months ago. I never changed it. The error is occuring in recent posts (in the old MT posts the é coding is being used), and remains there even after checking everything and saving the post again!
    Even more strange: I pasted ?? ?? ?? into the title of a new post ??nd pasted those same characters in the body of that same post: In the title the characters are shown correctly, in the body the characters are not shown at all!!!
    So now what?

    Ahum… I think I found the answer…
    I activated the Textile 2.0 plugin and this was causing the errors. The only strange thing is that I activated that plugin when I installed WP a few months ago, and I always reread my posts for writing errors, and never encountered this before…
    Doesn’t matter. It’s fixed now. The only thing that still remains is that stupid loginproblem… ??
    (which is not solved by that nice infopage by Podz…)
