A second site

  • I have read several post, and have found none that addressed my question. I currently have a site up and running on wordpress. I would like to completely rebuild the site without taking the current site down. Once the new site is ready I intend to replace the old one with the new site. I would like to know if I can build the new site within wordpress as a second (separate) site and then do the switch

  • Although WordPress can do multisite mode, it’s not a good way to “completely rebuild” a site.
    If you really need the new version to be online while you build it (like to show a client or something), then install WordPress in a folder and mark it as “hidden from search engines” while you build it. If you aren’t collaborating with someone, it’s best to install WordPress on your computer and build the new site there.

    Once the new one is built, you would use a migration plugin to move it to where you want it.
