A question about WP and hosting
-
I have a question about hosting and the strains that WP installations produce on a shared server.
I host my site The Rock and Roll Report (www.rockandrollreport.com)which draws appox. 400 unique pageviews a day.
I have been told the following:
WordPress is often implicated in excessive processor and memory usage issues. You might try temporarily disabling all WordPress plugins for a 24 hour period to see what effect it has on your resource usage, though you shouldn’t disable the WP-Cache or WP-SuperCache plugin, whichever you have installed.
The plugins I have installed besides WP Super Cache are:
PodPress (the podcast files are not stored on this server)
Akismet
All in One SEO Pack
Amazon Reloaded for WordPress
Breadcrumb Navigation XT
Contextual Related Posts
Flexi Pages Widget
Lightbox 2
NextGEN Gallery
Secure and Accessible PHP Contact Form
Share This
WordPress Database BackupAll are the most current version.
My webhost is telling me the average usage stats on a shared server are:
Average %CPU usage – 3.60
Average %Memory usage – 0.88
Average %MySQL usage – 0.2and my site’s stats are:
ocka9 rockandrollreport.com 3.60 0.88 0.2
Top Process %CPU 81.0 /usr/bin/php /home/rocka9/public_html/index.php
Top Process %CPU 71.0 [php]
Top Process %CPU 66.0 [php]Which plugins could be causing this excessive usage? I absolutely need podpress and the NextGen Image Gallery but I am wondering if these are causing the problems especially NextGEN as I have 29 galleries associated with it.
Is it possible to audit my site to determine which plugins are causing the most problems?
I have disabled all plugins but Askimet and WP-Super Cache for 24 hours as recommended to see if this changes things.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. They are recommending I upgrade to a dedicated server but that is way beyond my means at this point in time.
Thanks in advance.
