First, I like this plugin very much and it works quiet well for me. There is only one borring point to me.
I use the plugin to import local police messages from a rss-feed to my site. Every message in the rss-feed has an image. Most of the time it is always the same default image with always the same url, but sometimes it is in context to the message.
I set the “Post thumbnail source” setting to “Generate from the first post image” and it works as expected. But it spams WP’s Mediathek with always the same default image, by giving it always a different name. Can’t you plugin check if the image already exist in the Mediathek, before adding it again and again and again and again?

Sorry for my bad english. ??

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Unfortunately it can’t check the image for existence in the Media Library. Technically, the plugin should download an new image, calculate it’s checksum and compare it towards the checksums of all images in the Media Library (there could be thousands of theme and every single one must be calculated). Such an operation may easily put your server down. And this is a “lazy” method, which does not guarantee a 100% match. The proper method is to compare the downloaded image towards the existing ones byte-by-byte…

I don’t think so, all you need to do is to check if a image with the same Filename/url already exist in the Mediathek. Just a simple check inside the upload directory would be necessary and if it already exists don’t add it again.

The Media Library does not store the original image URLs. The files in the upload directory may have the same names (actually, CyberSEO changes the image filenames to make them more SEO-friendly), but nobody knows the remote URLs these files have came from.
