I have always found that when you insert an image into a post or page, you have four choices. It can link to:

None (click on the image, doesn’t do anything)
Custom URL (another page or post on your site, or another website or blog)
Attachment Page (opens a post with only the image in it)
Media File (opens a new page in your browser with only the image shoved into the upper left corner)

If you want some kind of link, #2 is great if it fills your needs, but the latter two suck if you want people to be able to view the image by itself. That’s when you typically install a lightbox plugin so the image will open up into a lightbox for easy viewing.

But when I saw this one, these words caught my eyes:

An ultra lightweight jQuery lightbox for WordPress images and galleries.

Needless to say, I have now used this on several sites and am loving it.
