A Field automatically filling in on an order form – that isn’t wanted
-
This has begun to happen within the last month: People are ending up with big orders for Entomology badges when they haven’t selected the Entomology field at all in their orders. One feedback I got:
I have found that the 464 in Entomology appears when I get the computer to auto fill my name/address details ??
I have tried removing and recreating the field, but it hasn’t made any difference. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem?
The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi @angelamd59
I hope you are doing well today.
I visited your form and I was not able to replicate this issue.
- How many people report this issue?
- Do they use the same PC/Laptop?
- Can they use a separate browser and see if the issue exists as well?
- Do they fill that form as not logged in or as logged-in users?
Kind Regards,
KrisHi Kris, thank you for the response. As I see it, the issue is intermittent – i.e we’ve not been able to replicate it, but it’s a definite issue occurring randomly between completely different customers, all of whom use their different computers. It’s also only happening with that one field – none of the others. We do not have a login process and the form is public. We don’t have any information relating to the browser used. Going by the emails that have been forwarded to me with the problem, the total number of people is at least 6. The first email was dated 22/3/2024 and the last was 30/4/2024.
Thanks
AngelaHi @angelamd59,
Hope this message finds you well.
Thanks for the information. Testing the form on different browsers and devices autofill, I couldn’t reproduce the issue, the field Entomology remains on 0 and is not being auto-filled. Still, all the submissions with this issue have the same number 464? Let us know.
Best regards,
LauraHi Laura
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, the man who receives the orders is away for three weeks, so going by the emails he forwarded to me: 22/3/2024 – 464 Entomology; 3/4/2024 – 56 Entomology and a mention that this was the 5th unasked-for order for Entomology; 11/4/2024 – 105 Entomology and another for 95 Entomology; 29/4/2024 – 464 Entomology and the address the computer automatically filled in for them was 464…; 30/4/2024 – 27 Entomology and their address was 27 Walnut Avenue. So it appears the address is somehow affecting the Entomology field, going by a few of the replies. I hope this helps.
Thanks,
AngelaHi @angelamd59,
Is the problem specific to the notification email? I ask because you mentioned that the person who receives the order is currently unavailable. Could you please check the form submissions at WP Dashboard >> Forminator >> Submissions and see the same result?
Can you please also share an export of the form so that we can take a closer look? Please share the export using Google Drive or Pastebin.com. I hope the following guide comes in handy: https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/forminator/#import-export
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Kind Regards,
Nebu JohnHi Nebu
From what I can see it is not specific to the notification email, but is on the form submission. I have been able to locate 2 of the form submissions by looking through a few of the Forminator >> Submissions.
March 21 2024, order #2346. Only 2 badges were ordered (1 x Wool Science, 1 x Biosecurity), but the No. of Badges Ordered field says 466. The Courier Delivery Address is PO Box 464. The emailed website form submission says:
1 Biosecurity
1 Entomology
464 Wool Science
1 No. of Badges Ordered
466 Science BadgesApril 11 2024, order #2406. Only 5 badges were ordered, but the No. of Badges Ordered field says 100. The Courier Delivery Address is 95 East St. The emailed website form submission says:
1 Botany
1 Electronics
1 Entomology
95 Human Biology
1 Water Science
1 No. of Badges Ordered
100 Science Badges
They did order 1 Human BiologyI have exported the order form: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PsqQmI8tw-NI7s8wki1jm7tLpzlCTbkI/view?usp=sharing
Thanks
AngelaHi @angelamd59
Thank you for response!
It seems you found some pattern here and it appears like some kind of calculation happening – the number from address being added-up to the actual number of badges ordered, then ending up in that Entomology badge.
That’s strange indeed. Unfortunately, we can’t get the form to test it as the link that you shared is private. Would you, please, edit it at your Google Drive and change link permission there to “Everyone with a link can view…” option?
Let us know once done here, please.
Kind regards,
AdamHi Adam – sorry about that, I have changed the permission: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PsqQmI8tw-NI7s8wki1jm7tLpzlCTbkI/view?usp=sharing
Thanks
AngelaHi @angelamd59
Thanks for sharing the form export, I tried to replicate the issue but it always works fine when tested.
So if we aren’t wrong the issue only occurs when the field is auto-filled and if manually filled it works fine?
However, I’m afraid I’m not able to find a specific correlation which might have contributed to such a behaviour when tested.
Do you happen to notice the issue common with any specific browsers? ie Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc? You can add a new Hidden field to capture that information:
https://i.imgur.com/28EUAvk.pngThen use the following site to rule out if this is common with any specific browser:
https://tools.iplocation.net/user-agent
I could also notice the current version of Forminator you have is v 1.29.3, while the latest version is 1.30.2.
Could you also monitor and see if there are any improvements after the latest update of the plugin and if any common browsers are detected if the issue occurs for newer submissions?
Looking forward to your response.
Kind Regards,
Nithin
Hi Nithin
Thank you for the response. We are on version 1.30.2 now. I have added the hidden field for HTTP User Agent, so I will wait to see if there are any more glitches.
Thanks
AngelaHi @angelamd59,
I have added the hidden field for HTTP User Agent, so I will wait to see if there are any more glitches.
Thanks for the follow-up. Sure, please do let us know how that goes so that it can help us give better clarity if the auto-fill is specific to any particular browser too.
Kind Regards,
Nithin
Hi @angelamd59,
Since we haven’t heard from you for a while. I’ll mark this thread as resolved for now. Please feel free to open a new thread if you have new queries.
Kind Regards
NithinHi Nithin – yes, please do as I have heard nothing either about any problems. The hidden browser information is great to have too. Many thanks for your help. ?? Angela

FYI I have upgraded to Pro (yesterday) but am having trouble connecting https://sciencebadges.co.nz.
Thanks

Hi @angelamd59
Thank you for sharing the form export.
When I was trying to import it into my lab site, I got an error that said the form export is not valid, it seems a text in the save and continue message was causing issues.
