A clean and simple editor?

I’ve built dozens of sites in Joomla and used JCE which allows me via a click of 2 boxes the ability to edit my content cleanly. I press enter and I get
. I press enter 3 times I get 3
. Perfect.

I have tried about 12 different editors in wordpress and not one of them leaves the page alone. They all add <p> tags. This is very much not wanted. I don’t expect my clients to have to edit the code on each page to get rid if them or to use the html view. It’s too complicate for many of them.

CKEditor is the closest to doing this, but only if you press enter once. Everything else is wrapped in p tags. Their support for “fixing” this is very, very unclear. As it stands, it’s not fit for purpose.

Does anybody have a solution to this?

Surely with all the developers for wordpress their is a decent editor. I’ve found this to be extremely frustrating – especially for something that should be a basic requirement.
