I’ve been having a major problem with this feature for months and I’m surprised that it still hasn’t been fixed by the SEO experts at Yoast.

This is the fact that when you want to take advantage of rewrite & republish to republish the post with a new url (new slug), it doesn’t work. Even when the new slug is saved in the back office, during the scheduled publication, it uses the original URL of the article (instead of the new one we could setup). While it can be very interesting to leave the old url in 404 and publish the updated content on a new url sometimes (google discover…).

Could you fix this problem please?

    Hi @testwp75

When you change the slug, a redirection is required. Otherwise, the old post will return a 404 as you mentioned.

You are asking to leave the old URL to 404 and publish content with the new URL. It is annoying for the?visitor to hit a 404 “page not found” error on your website. Search engine spiders tend to not like such errors much either. So, it is not recommended to have 404 on your site.

You mentioned, “Even when the new slug is saved in the back office, during the scheduled publication, it uses the original URL of the article (instead of the new one we could setup).” – Can you kindly provide us with screenshots that highlight the area where you are saving the new slug?

You can use any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your own website. Once you upload it to an image-sharing service, please share the link to the image here.
