    Hi

I have been running the batch and seeing a few things I don’t understand.

#1 First – thousands of files have run so far, but only a very small percent have actually optimized. Most say “No Savings”.
In advanced, settings are default on Level “2”.

#2 In Advanced Settings, where the Folders to optimize field allows you to define a folder, one path per line – after filling this out (and trying to test run it by adding only a few folders) I see that the batch seems to completely ignore this WAS filled out – and when running the batch, goes directly to the entire scope of all files on the site (or seemingly so)

Wondering if I’ve overlooked something, or something is off.

Google reports I should optimize images and tho I’ve compressed everything on my site in Photoshop – I suspected they’d return at least be a LITTLE more compressed?

I backed it all up too in case I didn’t like the results but didn’t expect the plugin would skip SO MANY files and not compress them at all. (which in turn isn’t changing page speed results by more than 1 point for that subject)

#1 usually means the images are already optimized (especially since you say you’ve compressed everything via photoshop already)

#2 Make sure it actually saves your folders. The scanner is recursive, so if you specify the root of your WP install in the box, it will indeed scan your entire WP site for images. By default, it only scans the active theme, and images created by a handful of plugins.

Since you’re having trouble with Google telling you to optimized images, I recommend you check this out:

    Hi,

I checked as you said, the files in the folders on the server – are dated for when I ran the bulk optimizer on the 17th, but most of the files weren’t optimized – and oddly enough, something I hadn’t noticed before – but – my template creates multiple images for every image I upload (mobility) (and I’ve never liked that it did that) –
NOW, I noticed that some of the images it created, are larger file sizes than my original!
Twice the size in fact – Ugh. Frustrating. (They were not compressed either)

    Example:
    An original image of 800×2400 that = 436K didn’t compress –
A duplicate of it created by the theme of 768×2304 that = 1517K and it didn’t compress…. (ludicrous that a smaller dimension dup would be a larger file size) (I want these all removed now) (4 years worth, I could scream…)

? Anyway, it did save over the folders (the files within & until i aborted it) however, I specified only certain folders so I could LOOK to see what was happening –

I’m not sure if I specified the root though this is what it states in the advanced setting:
“One path per line, must be within /home/content/02/13608602/html/bcr8tive/. Use full paths, not relative paths.”
and I used the full paths of the folders such as:
    https://bcr8tive.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/”

? You’re right, re: (Google) there IS metadata on most every image. I put it there AND I had elected the option not to remove it. Wondering now if I should have, but seeing that the plugin didn’t actually compress much, not sure yet I should run it again (yet). ??

I would turn on the metadata removal, and run it on a handful of your images just to see what happens. If you switch the Media Library to list view, you can selectively optimize images.

Ok thanks I’m doing that now and by the way, the media list option is awesome!

Crossing fingers. Will let you know how it goes ??
