885 modified files notice

I haven’t modified 885 files! How is it that changes to WordPress can affect my site when I haven’t upgraded?

The user interface suddenly changed and left me baffled about how to upload pictures to a certain place in my theme. It took me a long time to find out.

My Search fields stopped working for a while and then returned to normal – this is a little disconcerting!
