8-seconds to load suggestions

    Hi Scott,

    Pretty awesome plugin, thanks for contributing this – only question I have is why it runs slow on my website. I takes about 8 seconds before suggestions are given (so a user is likely to click the “search” button before waiting for suggestions). Otherwise my website loads fairly quickly, e.g. 2-3 seconds so I don’t think it’s general speed issue.

    Any thoughts?

    Can you provide a link to your site?

    The instant search results part of the plugin can be slowed down due to a slow site (it scrapes the front end). The search suggestions may be slowed by a slow database – quite a few queries are run to get the list of suggestions. 8 seconds seems extremely slow. It might be worth contacting your host to see if they can provide any behind the scenes performance insight.

    No problem. Just had a quick look at your site and the requests are a little quicker for me (around 3 seconds).

    Chrome inspector tells me the biggest wait is for your server:

    This suggests to me that it is perhaps your database being a little slow (could be PHP but less likely). You are hosting with GoDaddy, if this is a shared hosting package then one database server is often shared between many sites… it would be worth contacting them to see if they can determine the bottleneck. Sometimes it is network related.
