8 articles presented as 16 articles?!

I have been busy with ‘deleting’ all kinds of silly categories I made to end up with just two.
In theorie the ‘articles’ (as I have called them) I placed under those deleted categories should be put under the -basic always there- categorie, as WordPress says.
After doing this I changed the names of the two categories and thought to end up with one categorie under which all articles would fall (8 to be precise) and one categorie with a cartoon (1 in this case!).
But…Now in my sidebar it says there are (16) articles.

What I mean is the following in the sidebar:
Artikelen (16)
Cartoons (1)This number (16) how do I change this?
The ID’s must have got something to do with this, but I’m lost…
