  • I dont see anything in bold type in ff OR ie .. care to share an example page, what browser you’re using?

    I have the same problem.

    https://www.lyricalwisdom.com

My browser is firefox. In IE it is worse. A lot of text is underlined. I have made no changes to stylesheets.

lyricalwisdom, it begins in the post “Thoughts arrive like butterflies….” — look for an invalid closing strong tag: <strong /> instead of </strong>.

(Always pinpoint where the “problem” originates on a page, then start digging through the source.)

There are tons of ‘<strong’ and ‘</strong’ tags in the post where it starts doing that and the post after as well… like maybe 5 ‘<strong’ tags and then 5 ‘</strong’ tags before one word. those extra tags can be deleted and that narrows down where the problem is.. you opened one but forgot to close one.

I’ve run into this same thing on all 47 WordPress sites I manage. For some reason, in Firefox only, pages and single posts have everything displayed as bold.

If I check the theme files and/or edit the page, there are no ‘strong’ tags, but if I use Web Developer to view the source there will sometimes be up to 6 nested levels of ‘strong’ tags. I have no idea where they come from, and this only occurs in Firefox.

View the same page in IE or Opera and it is fine. View source from IE and there are no strong tags. I never have figured out why this is, but I have found out from a couple of Church Site Design message boards that this is fairly common and not just me.

So we just assure our clients that for whatever reason Firefox and WordPress don’t play together nicely when pages are involved. Home page is fine, so if it is a blog site, it really doesn’t cause much trouble. If it is a whole church web site that we are using WP for, then we remind the client that although FF is generally the best browser, the majority of their site users will be using IE and will see the pages displayed as they are supposed to be.

I hadn’t even worried about this for months, as I had just accepted it as “one of those things…”

But after stumbling across this post tonight and then entering my 2 cents worth, I got to worrying with it again, trying to figure out what in the world could be causing it.

And this time I actually found the problem. I had been using the WP Admin Bar 2 (v. 2.4) plugin. There was an open strong tag in the code for that plugin. I’ve spent the last little while correcting that on my sites and then I went to the plugin site so I could let Matt Read (the plugin author) know about it. Well, of course Matt has already found it and released version 2.4.1 of the WP Admin Bar 2 plugin.

So all that to say, if you have unexplained bold styling on your pages or single posts, and you’re using the WP Admin Bar 2, make sure you update it to the latest release.

(Still not sure why it only affected pages on FF. Anyone have any ideas on that?)

I also need help with this. I do not understand why some portions of the text are emboldened and some are not- though most are. I have done everything I can think of to fix this problem.

Some of the posts have no strong tags at all and yet the type is bold.
