Hi @sdowney2002
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand that while downloading WooCommerce version 7.2.2 from our releases page, Windows Defender has raised a Win32/Emali.A!cl
warning. It’s important to address this issue, and I’m here to help you with that.
Firstly, I want to assure you that our development team takes security very seriously, and we thoroughly test our software before releasing it to the public. However, false positives can sometimes occur with antivirus software, including Windows Defender.
I’ve checked the Github repository, however, this is the only bug report related to your issue here, however, this is pertaining to release 7.6.0.
Given that you have the most current Defender definition file (1.391.851.0) installed, it’s possible that this could be a false positive. However, we take security very seriously and want to ensure that your system remains protected. To help resolve this issue, please follow these steps:
- Temporarily disable Windows Defender before downloading the file.
- Download the WooCommerce 7.2.2 version again from the official releases page.
- Once the download is complete, re-enable Windows Defender’s real-time protection by following the same steps mentioned above and toggling the switch back on.
- Manually scan the downloaded file with Windows Defender to ensure its safety. To do this, right-click on the downloaded file, select Scan with Microsoft Defender, and wait for the results.
If Windows Defender still flags the file as potentially harmful, please do not proceed with the installation and reach out to us again. We will investigate the issue further and provide you with an appropriate solution.
Hope this helps!
