Hi there, I’ve searched but can’t seem to find anything about this..

Sorry if I just overlooked it.

I’ve installed WP fine on my girlfriends site for her, under https://www.clarezed.com/blog, and I’ve just setup a sub-domain blog.clarezed.com..

Obviously it’s using the same Mysql database but what would I need to change to transfer it over to the new sub-domain.

I assume the path to the DB can remain the same..

I imagine if I just transfer over the WP files from the old directory and replace the install.php with the version from the WP I downloaded?

    Thanks in advance..

    2. Do not try to see your blog in a browser!
    3. Move the WP files to the new location
    4. No install needed, just move them.
    5. Open your blog by typing the location URL in the address bar.

    #2 is very important!

Excellent, that’s what I did wrong, luckily I backed up before I transferred it, you’re a star.

    Thank yoooooooooou!

Worked like a charm, thank you a million times over.

Erm, except it hasn’t seemed to transfer over the images from the diary entries, any ideas?

The images are on the server but when I edit a post that should contain an image it says ‘no thumbnail’ and ‘not linked’

Probably the path to those images was hardcoded according to the old address.

Is there a way round it?

I don’t know how did you link the images in the post and where the images are stored? Are they inside of the WP install or somewhere outside of it?
One “workaround” is to edit the posts manually to correct the path – PITA, I know ??
Or, if somebody can offer you a simple MySQL query to change the path in all posts in the database (provided they are all the same!) – but I am not a coder, so you’ll have to ask (eventually in a new thread) for the assistance of a code guy…

There’s a plugin here which can help maybe:
    https://thedeadone.net/software/search-and-replace-wordpress-plugin/

I’d look through at least one post to check it is a path / url issue first though

They were contained within the WPcontent directory, uploaded through WordPress..

I’ll change them manually, I did notice though when I tried to upload fresh copies via WP it reports back ‘The uploaded file could not be moved to .’

That could be a permissions problem on the folder you’re trying to move them to.

Cool changing the URLs manually worked for the existing images, I’ll try uploading a new image..

    Vkaryl, thank you!

It’s been a long day, that worked fine.

    Cheers guys.
