• I noticed that since I upgraded to ver 2.0.2, I have a lot of spams. Fortunately, I have installed Askimet. Anyone getting the same? Is it normal? Is Askimet good enough as a plugin?

Btw, I have problem with the Shortstats with this version. Any recommendation for another plugin to use to track statistics with ver 2.0.2?

  • I’ve had lots of spam ever since WordPress 1.2. Specific versions most certainly don’t attract them differently.

Akismet is a rather good spam protector. But I’m of the mind you can never have enough protection in this area, and Akismet works along side (also excellent) anti-spam tools like Bad Behavior and Spam Karma. You’ll find those and many others listed here:

No suggestions on a stat plugin, as I don’t use one.

    Hey Kafkaesqui,

Thanks for helping to clear my mind and also for the pointer. Will check out Spam Karma.

I’d also recommend the Spam Karma plugin, I believe that and Askimet work very well together in cutting down the amount of spam you might receive.

devilmaycry: Uh, I wouldn’t run both at the same time. You may encounter problems.

Anyway, I personally use SK2 as I find Aksimet isn’t quite as reliable, but I do have the Akismet plugin for SK2 installed.

You can read a brief review on it on my blog.

That maybe very true Viper007Bond, but, I have both going together and don’t really have any problems at all. The only thing that I might have a “tad bit” of trouble with, is the trackbacks seem to take forever to work or whatever..

Anyways, thanks for that link on your blog for that little Akismet plugin for SK2… =) I have it downloaded and I’ll try it out later on… =)

Well, you may or may not have problems. But say SK2 runs before Akismet and marks a comment as spam. What if then Akismet thinks it’s not and then unmarks it? I’m not saying you definetly will encouter problems, I’m just saying it’s not really a good idea IMO.

Those bl**** spammers just always find a new way to nag you. I’m now getting “trackback spam”, just useless comments on a blog that is no blog making my site think someone quotes my article..

I know you can disable this, but isn’t it possible to filter any trackback that has urls ?

Yeah, that’s true Viper.. =) Shoot, just to be on the safe side then, I’ll install that little plugin you linked us to in here. =) Thanks again Viper.. ??

Install Akismet or Spam Karma 2. Both handle trackbacks.

hmm.. it doesnt seem to work, does one of these thigns need to run as a processon the server host ? cause if I enable the akismet plugin it aways says i need some kind of wordpress pin code, but i’m not on wordpress.com so I don’t have a pincode like this ,

CosmicD, you just need to signup over there at wordpress.com for a blog, and you’ll be given the API key after you login to your wordpress.com blog’s CP or whatever. I have done it, as well as many others.. Hope this helps.

And as far as I know, you don’t have to really use that blog.. =/ Not positive, but I don’t really lmao!
