• I’m trying to update to 6.3 and running into the follow error. I’ve tried disabling all plugins and activating the 2023 theme to no avail. I’m a moderate coder and tried a few fixes but it’s beyond my meager skills. Any thoughts appreciated.

  • That’s defined in load.php so you might think it’s loaded all the time. Did you copy all the files correctly? Is load.php being run and does it have that function in it?

Definitely reinstall the WordPress files, the error comes from a WordPress file and it seems that a WP core file didn’t get fully updated during the install/update process recently.

I’m not sure I totally understand. What I did was open up wp-load.php. Is that the one you mean? I’m doing the automatic update, not downloading a fresh copy of WP which is what I think you are asking. wp-load.php does not have wp_is_development_mode() in it.

I’m sorry I’m not more technically inclined but I appreciate the help ??

Ok, I just saw Scott’s reply. I will manually reinstall the WP Core.

Booja! Thank you, gentleman. I suspect it was a database update of some kind because after I uploaded the fresh copy I was immediately hit with a your site was updated but now needs db update. Which I did and all is well.

    Thanks!

    Tom

Glad this was an easy fix ??

Hi, I am Patricio from Argentina, I have the same error, I don′t know what to do, I see that Tom can fix it with Scott but, how can I reinstall the wordpress files?

Hey, Patrico. It’s a little technical and it took me some reading online to figure it out. Here is the broad outline of the steps required. You will need to do further research on each step.

    1. Go to your host provider and create an FTP account.

    2. Download an FTP client. I used a free one Core FTP LE

    3. Go to www.remarpro.com and download a fresh copy of WordPress to your computer.

    4. Unzip the new download and delete the WP-content folder (very important)

    5. Use your FTP client to upload the newly downloaded WordPress copy up to your website telling it to overwrite older files.

    6. Hopefully you are fixed.

There are plenty of people here who are more skilled than me and might have some improvements to my methods but this is what I did.

    Good luck!

    Tom

Hello Tom, I just experienced the same problem and your method worked. Thanks a lot!!!! ??
