6.3 can no longer crop “thumbnail only”

  • I use the “thumbnail only” cropping feature almost daily to adjust how thumbnails are cropped. This feature is missing in 6.3. ?? SO now I guess i have to find a plugin that will allow me to crop the thumbnails without cropping the whole photos?

  • The same here! I use it on lots of images. Why did they remove this function? It has ruined my whole site! After I needed to regenerate my thumbnails, all thumbnails are now displayed incorrectly, and I can’t fix them. Please add this function again! I can’t find any plugin having the same function!

    I found one plugin that will do it, so I can get by for now, but why remove such as useful feature from WordPress core? Please bring it back!

    I agree. This was a feature I use all the time, and I don’t understand why the function was removed. How can we petition WordPress to bring it back?

    I tried the Thumbnail Editor plugin linked above, it certainly is more fiddly to use – more scrolling around with the image larger than the viewport and the hassle of setting the crop ratio after the first crop (and shift-drag doesn’t start place a square crop to start with). It also produces ridiculously large filesizes, I had to go in and run RIOT over the thumbnails it produced, I’ll experiment with command-line compression in future or generate thumbnails with desktop software with the upload folder mounted via SFTP if the native feature won’t be returning.

    A plugin can be downloaded to get back the original function.
