6.1 Renames media files

  • We just realised that since September 2022 every image that has the form:
    xx.x.xx.x.webp it is automaticaly renamed to xxxxxx.webp upon upload. i.e. the “.”s are getting replaced.

    Any ideas why this is happening and what we can do to restore it in its original behaviour?

    1. check the settings of your 3rd party plugin if you are using any one to compress images or convert / change format

    2. check upload folder and sub-folder permissions in your server root diectory,

    for example – /wp-content/upload..

    The “culprit” was found to be AIOSEO’s Image SEO plugin that by default replaces special characters/punctuations in the file names.
