    Hi,

    I have been trying to back up my site for the past day or so, and I really can’t tell if it’s finished or not.

    This was the last message I saw in the log:

    Zip: backup_2020-09-15-1231_Sinai_and_Synapses_dd6a85b935d6-plugins.zip.tmp: 17300 files added (on-disk size: 87470.1 KB) (Sep 15 13:15:50)

    Yet, there is no completed backup with today or yesterday’s date in the list. I haven’t set any remote storage, so this would be local.

    Furthermore, the site has been sporadically throwing 508 errors all day. Could this be caused by the plugin’s CPU usage? If so, how do I actually stop this backup that won’t seem to end?

    Hi,

    Please could you send us a copy of the latest full backup log?

    This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.
    The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Hi,

    It shows that the backup has been timed out or killed off.

    Could you try to reduce the backup archive split size? This will split the backup into smaller, more manageable files.

    To do this, open the ‘expert settings’ section of the UpdraftPlus Settings tab, and find the ‘split backups every’ option. Set this to 25Mb save your settings and run a new process.

    If the issue persists, please ask your hosts/server admin to investigate their PHP error logs. These logs should contain more information on the exact issue that is causing the backup process to halt.

    Hi Bryle,

    Okay, I found the option under expert settings –?the problem is, the site has basically been unusably slow and throwing errors ever since I started this backup process (which has been running for 2 days!).

    Is there any way to stop the process? I don’t even have a clear idea of if it’s still going on. From what you said about the log, it sounds like something stopped it from completing, but the site is still experiencing the same adverse effects as during the backup.

    Hi Bryle,

    I don’t see that “actions” menu, only a button saying “Backup Now.” Does that mean it’s not backing up anymore?

    I have also been periodically getting an error that says “unexpected response” and shows some javascript and then says “There appears to be an unauthorized attempt from this site to access your database located at https://sinaiandsynapses.org. The attempt has been halted.”

    Can you ask your host/server admin to check the PHP error log? The exact information about the issue should be logged there.
