    Hello,

I’m attempting to import a table and keep getting a timeout 504 error.
    504 Gateway Time-out
The server didn’t respond in time.

The table I’m importing is 69KB with about 800 rows and 10 columns of data.

Do you have any suggestions on how to correct this issue?

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

What import format are you using here? I’ve only seen something like this with the Excel import of .xlsx files. I would therefore recommend to save the table to a CSV file in Excel and then import the .csv file into TablePress. That should work more reliably here.

    Hi Tobias,

It’s an xls document. I saved it as a CSV and encountered the same error.

    Hi,

that’s strange. I can only assume some kind of server problem then, e.g. that the server can not correctly access the temporary file upload location.
To verify that, can you maybe try exporting and existing table as a CSV file and then re-import that CSV file (as a new table)? Does the same problem happen then?
You would then need to contact your web host company’s support team here and ask them to check the server’s error log file for more information.

it worked just fine with another file – any idea what to look for in my file that won’t import that might be causing an issue? It’s not a very large or complex file.

    Hi,

can you maybe upload the file somewhere, send me the file via email (the address is on https://tablepress.org/impressum/)?
My assumption is that it’s security related, e.g. because the table data contains certain words that the server’s firewall software does not like (because it thinks that a hacking attempt is going on). This can e.g. be the case with words like “select” or “insert”, which are used in SQL database queries.

    Tobias
