My wife is the world’s biggest luddite. I set up Postie so she could get stuff posted on her blog.

My wife tried posting but it seems the plugin no longer works for her. If I go in and try to run it manually or to use the debug, I get a 504 error and nothing else. I did a search for 504 in the FAQ but no results. Seems to have worked perfectly up until WP5.3. Updated to 5.4 and same problem.

I looked around for “time out” and saw an old post recommending setting the WP memory from the default 40M (which this was) to 64 or 96M. I set it to 96M, verified it shows up to the system as 96M, and it still gets a 504 with no dump.

    Thank you.

There doesn’t seem to be any particular issue with Postie and WP 5.4.

A 504 error is a webserver error. You might check with your hosting company to see if they can shed any light on what is happening.

I finally figured it out. My wife sent a 20MB image and Postie timed out trying to receive it, tripping the 504. After I logged into her receiving email account for Postie and removed the giant image Postie began to work again.

For a possible future added feature perhaps Postie can reject emails with oversized attachments.

Appreciate your reply, and thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll see what can be done.
