Since installing Jetpack, my website has been very slow, even generating 503 Service Unavailable errors.

After contacting my hosting support, they replied:

    worthyexpressions.sawgrassmall.com/wp-json/jetpack/v4/jitm?message_path=wp%3Awoocommerce_page_wc-admin%3Aadmin_notices&query=page%253Dwc-admin%252Cpath%253D%25252Fpayments%25252Foverview&full_jp_logo_exists=false&_wpnonce=606287cab2

That specific process took over 42 seconds to complete, taking up all the available CPU and memory available.

I highly recommend disabling Jetpack and then going from there.

    Please advise.

Hey @yourbudweiser – it appears the Jetpack connection for your site is currently not working correctly which might be causing the issue and I see Operation timed out after 5001 milliseconds error on our side.

Generally, seeing the timeout error like that and not being able to connect at all points to something on your server blocking Jetpack.

In this case, I would recommend reaching out to your web host to first make sure that Jetpack is not getting blocked or limited or is prevented from accessing your xmlrpc.php file: https://www.example.com/xmlrpc.php.

This file is used by Jetpack and other plugins and apps to connect to your site. If you want to know details about XML-RPC and how it helps Jetpack, you can check our detailed guide here:

For the best results, you could also have them whitelist the Jetpack IP ranges noted on this page.

If you’re unsure about this, you may contact your hosting provider; they should be able to help you with this. Please note that these IP addresses could change (or more could be added) at any time. For that reason, we recommend your host uses the machine-readable versions of these IP ranges in JSON or plain text format to automate configuration changes on their systems.

Let me know how it goes!

Hello, xmlrpc is not being blocked as verified by accessing xmlrpc.php on my website and the Jetpack dashboard does show that Jetpack is connected to my wordpress.com account. Is there some other reasons why Jetpack seems to be slowing my website to a crawl?

    Hi @yourbudweiser

Even though xmlrpc.php can be accessed through your web browser, when Jetpack attempts to access it several times (as it needs to, as xmlrpc.php is like a bridge between Jetpack and WordPress.com) after a number of attempts it is being slowed down, and eventually times out.

This indicates a security setting on your site or hosting server which is limiting these attempts to access to the file.
