Hey everyone, long time lurker, first time thread creator.

My WP install has been running without any issues until today when the site – frontend/admin – went down with a ‘502 Bad Gateway’ error.

Checked the DNS/caching stuff on my Cloudflare account and it’s fine. Obviously a theme/plugin/server issue I guess. What is the best way to diagnose and resolve?

    Thanks
    Alex

Also for reference, as I can’t access WP admin, tried rename plugin/theme folders without success to force disabling/reverting to other themes with no success.

502 stands for PHP backend unreachable
It has nothing to do with WordPress, because it is on lower level.

Please ask your hosting support, or if you have own/dedicated/VPS server – make sure that process(es) that provide PHP execution are running.
Check error logs if there are any problems with PHP runners to start or run.
Also make sure you have some free space on your server disks

Guess what? Restarted the web server, then WP went into maintenance mode, then 10 mins later..back online!

    Weird one, now sorted.

Sometimes a 502 error can be caused by storage challenges. If the inode count goes up, you’ll be in trouble of site inaccessibility. You could confirm that next time you face a similar situation.
