500 Server Error when updating User’s Password
-
I ran in to an issue which is certainly an edge case, but I thought I would let you know about it.
I was helping a client through the Basic Setup Instructions, and of course, the client could not remember their password. So, I went to their WP user and attempted to change their password. When I hit save, I got a 500 server error.
I deactivated the Gmail SMTP plugin, and I was able to change the user’s password with no error.
Then, I reactivated the Gmail SMTP plugin and successfully finished the plugin setup process with no problems.
For further testing, I created a new WP user. Then, I changed the password for the user. Again, no 500 server error.
So, my conclusion is that if the Gmail SMTP plugin is active but not configured, a 500 server error can be caused when attempting to change a WP User’s password. However, when the Gmail SMTP plugin is active and configured, I get no errors when changing a WP User’s password.
Of course, I realize this could be something due to my server configuration or a possible plugin conflict.
