• I’ve upgraded from 2.3 to 2.5, and now my blog gives me a “500 server error”. And, yes, I did turn off all my plug-ins before I started the upgrade. ??

What are the top things that cause this kind of error? Can I fix this myself or is it something on my hosting company’s end? I did submit a ticket to my hosting company, haven’t heard back yet.

My webhost gave me the fix. For the benefit of others, this was the fix:

Change the permissions of index.php to 644. In fact, my FTP client set all permissions to 644, so the entire WP Admin directory and its contents needed to be set to 644.

Doesn’t make any difference to me unfortunately. Strange thing is that I get the server error message only at the root, but I can access the login and upgrade.

Only I don’t dare to make the database upgrade, because I fear that if I have the server error now I’ll have it afterwards too – and rolling back the database to be able to go back to the previous version is going to be a pain…

Any other ideas, help would be great.
