500 server error after migrating to CentOS 7 –only homepage

  • Hi,
    I’ve struggled for the last few days to migrate my blog from bluehost to a CentOS 7 VM instance on Google Cloud Compute Engine, but I’ve encountered a great problem. The wp-admin dashboard is working perfectly, yet the homepage or any other post page isn’t working but displaying a 500 server error: ‘Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)’. I’ve used a few advices from the internet and I came to the conclusion that it is a theme problem. Can you help me with this and suggest any fix, please!

    Does your site work properly under the Twenty Sixteen or Twenty Fifteen themes? If so, what is the name of the theme with the problem, and where did you get it from?

    Yes, the site is working perfectly with the default theme. The problem is that the theme is customized for the site contents, so we can’t use any other theme. You can download the theme [Link redacted], but I would appreciate if you won’t share it nowhere. Thank you!

    Is it based on any theme in particular, or did you hire someone to make it?

    I hired someone to make it. I know that it is using Visual Composer, but I have no other information about the theme

    Ah, does the front page work (or, at least not return an error 500) if you deactivate the Visual Composer plugin?

    Are you still in contact with the person who built the theme for you?

    I’ve tried to deactivate all the plugins, yet the page is not working.
    No, I’m not in touch anymore with that person.

    Ok, it’s still a 500 with all plugins deactivated?

    We may be able to help, but we’ll need a more detailed error message. Internal server errors are usually described in more detail in the server error log. If you have access to your server error log, generate the error again (load the page and see the 500), note the date and time, then immediately check your server error log for any errors that occurred during that time period. If you don’t have access to your server error log, ask your hosting provider to look for you.

    We need the error entry from the specific moment that the 500 is visible on the screen. Anything else is inconsequential, or at the very least unrelated.

    Ah! I bet the theme might have had something that requires PHP 5.5 or 5.6.

    Can you upgrade PHP on the current server to at least 5.6.16? (The 5.6 branch is currently up to 5.6.22, and 7.0.7 is the latest overall. The 5.4 branch was discontinued in September of 2015.)

    I’ve updated it to php 5.6, but it didn’t fix the problem
