500 Server Error, 404 error, Website not available
-
Hi all,
I’ve really made a mess of this. I went and installed the most recent version of WP, which was the 3rd WP install I’ve done. The first two fizzled out and I haven’t updated in a while, so I don’t know how old they are, but I wanted to start fresh, so I made a new blog at folkdemon.com. What follows is a long list of mistakes I’ve probably made, and I’m trying to figure out how to fix things without having to go to Godaddy customer support because I’ve found that they take too long to respond and the first two volleys in the customer service are just form-replies to make sure you’re not complaining your computer isn’t plugged in.
I’m on Godaddy deluxe linux hosting. I installed the blog, it all went fine until I set up domain forwarding so that the domain “folkdemon.com” went to that instead of “folkdemon.com/blog”. When I did that, the site broke with a “this site is no longer available”. I played with a few things on the hosting control panel, I couldn’t tell you what anymore, and eventually, I had the blog working for a while…long enough to make a post (which worked) and install a new theme and plugins.
Then, when changing the settings on some plug-ins, all of a sudden I got internal server errors. I googled this, and saw a suggestion to just re-install. So I backed up some of the things, deleted the entire install, and thought I’d start again. It didn’t work, I just got more internal server errors.
I did some googling and research and found something about .htaccess corruption caused by various plugins, and to just delete the files to see what happens. I did that, and now my site (folkdemon.com) comes up as entirely blank. If I try to go to the install.php page, I get a 404 not found error instead. Now this is confusing me because I copied the URL from my ftp client, and it all looks good on that end of things.
Not only that, the old blogs, which I didn’t even touch, are now coming up “this page no longer available”. On top of that, all images that I’ve hosted around the web are now coming up as blank.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because I’m at my wits end with all of this.
Thanks
EDIT: I know this sounds like a real godaddy issue, but I thought I’d try here first.
I also had godaddy install a blog, and that is shot as well with the same errors
