Trying to install WP 2.8. I’m hosted at Startlogic. I’ve only installed WordPress (2.7)once before there, and didn’t encounter this problem.

I went through the 5-minute WP install procedures and got through the “Install WordPress” and was told

“Success! WordPress has been installed. Were you expecting more steps? Sorry to disappoint.”

However, as soon as I try to log on, I get this message:

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

I don’t see an error log in my high level WP directories.

I checked MySQL and as user I have full access. My suspicion is that I may have a permissions problem.

Tech support at Startlogic won’t help since it is a self-install (they don’t offer WP 2.8), so I’m turning here for help. I hope someone has some ideas what may be wrong.

    Thanks.

After messing around for close to 3 hours, I finally found the right combination of permission assignments. It’s illogical to me that by

      lowering

the directory permission, that it solved my problem. I wish I had tried that earlier, but I guess that is the process of learning the hard way!

So, I’m sure I’ll be back with more questions in the future, but for the moment I seem to be okay.
