• I am relatively new to the world of blogging. I have maintained a personal WordPress blog successfully for the past year, and am now trying to set up a WP blog for our church.

    I purchased the web domain and hosting through GoDaddy.com, so I now access my site directly at alianzapc.org. The only way I know to make changes to my site is by loading the page, and then logging in. (Whereas, I access my free blog via wordpress.com.) As I just purchased the domain and hosting this month, I believe I am running the most recent version of WP (3.0.1), but don’t know how to verify that.

    The site I am developing is for use in the Dominican Republic, so it is important for me to put it into Spanish. In the past, I could change things into Spanish from the wordpress.com website, but with the way I access the site now, the only thing I could figure out after researching it (WordPress in Your Language), was that I would have to upload WP 3.0.1 in Spanish (pe.www.remarpro.com). I have no experience in modifying FTP files, but I worked to follow the instructions carefully.

    I am using the Atahualpa theme, without any Plugins.

    I thought I had done everything correctly (after loading the necessary files, I modified one line of the code of the wp-config.php file to read: define ('WPLANG', 'es_PE');

    Since I did that, each time I try to access my page, I receive an HTTP 500 internal server error. I have been reading as much as I can on the WordPress sites, and completed various searches on Google to see if others have addressed this issue already, but I haven’t been able to figure out a solution.

    Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of HTML, PHP, CSS, etc. In fact, that’s why I chose WordPress, but I had no idea it would be so complicated to change to Spanish.

    I am willing to read and learn, so that I can become more versed in developing this site through WordPress. I am the only one who has ever accessed the site’s admin page, and I created the user name and password to work with the FTP site, but is it possible that I somehow did it with a user not recognized as the original OWNER?

    I have been trying many different approaches . . . I tried accessing my WordPress database through GoDaddy, but when I tried to access it via phpMyAdmin, I received a message stating:

    Error #1045 – Access denied for user ‘alianzapc’@’72.167.233.37’ (using password: YES)

    Thanks for your patience with me . . . I appreciate any help you can offer!
