• This messages was written for the wordpress.com form to contact support so i used their format yet i was directed to this forum:

I did: I tried to go to my WordPress site to see the website but the error occurred.

    I saw: 500 – Internal server error. at https://cstapleton.com/wordpress/
“There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.”

I expected: To type the address and view my site, even logging into wordpress through https://cstapleton.com/wordpress/wp-admin/index.php gives me the same error.

I called my hosting company Godaddy and they said the server is working because i could get the https://cstapleton.com/wordpress/license.txt file as it appears on the server.

I setup the WordPress through Godaddy as they have this easy install application yet hasn’t given much support for helping with it so they suggested i ask for help through WordPress.com

I tried to login to WP through the login link button on WP but after trying three times to remember the password, i tried to see if the email and the user name existed and it told me there was no user name on wordpress.com.

Side Note:Im trying to access my account and i would like to change hosting sites. I heard Dreamhost was a better all around for WordPress host

My intention: is i need to access myPHPAdmin to access the WordPress database to find a post i made. I had a page i made but i cannot remember if i deleted the page, and wanted to see if i could access the database to find it.

I did: have success the other day in accessing myPhpAdmin through Godaddy to see the MySQL database but that was the first or second time i had even known i could access the files for the database so i was not sure where to go or what to do.

I went to get support but i was directed to this forum for support.

I feel i am still a beginner and i have a visual processing disorder so reading lots of text on your support site is very difficult. I have to use a text to speech editor to help me read the information.

Anyhow please help, i need to finish creating my website because its the method to help me further my work in business.

    Thanks,

    Christopher Stapleton

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

Sorry for such a long response, i was recently in the hospital for 12 days but im out now.

-I found the wp-content/themes folder but what do i rename it to?

-I also found many different option_name fields in the SQL and Insert Tabs in PHPmyAdmin thats installed through GoDaddy. I dont know which to edit the information.

Would it be helpful if i made screen shots to explain myself better or would that be more confusing? Im a visual learner so imagery helps describe the situation better but it may not be helpful if you are not that kind of user.

Don’t rename that folder. Look in /wp-content/themes/ for your current theme’s directory, and rename that. For example, if you were using the Classic theme, you’d change /wp-content/themes/classic/ to /wp-content/themes/classic2/

I also found many different option_name fields in the SQL and Insert Tabs in PHPmyAdmin thats installed through GoDaddy. I dont know which to edit the information.

    You need to go to the wp_options table, find the active_plugins row, and change the option_value field to a:0:{}

    Thread Starter coldwhitefire

    (@coldwhitefire)

Thanks i will try those two options.

I tried to do what you suggested but this is what i see:

    https://cstapleton.com/zip/php_wp_options_table.jpg

I dont see a: “active_plugins” row to enter in any value.

Am i in the right place?

You need to be in the “Browse” tab, not the “Structure” tab.

    Thread Starter coldwhitefire

    (@coldwhitefire)

    OK ill try that

    (@coldwhitefire)

Ok i changed it where you said and i found the active plugins row.

Heres an image of the change:

    https://cstapleton.com/zip/php_wp_active_plugins.jpg

I tried to save or “go” then try to login to

https://cstapleton.com/wordpress but its still not working.

I also changed the folder name.

What else do i have to do?

Try switching to the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to rule-out a theme-specific issue. If you don’t have access to your admin panel, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the Default theme (WordPress 1.5 – 2.9.2) or the Twenty Ten theme (WordPress 3.0 and higher) to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue.

If that does not resolve the issue, it’s possible that a .htaccess rule could be the source of the problem. To check for this, access your server via FTP or SFTP and rename the .htaccess file. If you can’t find a .htaccess file, make sure that you have set your FTP or SFTP client to view invisible files.

If you weren’t able to resolve the issue by either resetting your theme or renaming your .htaccess file, we may be able to help, but we’ll need a more detailed error message. Internal server errors are usually described in more detail in the server error log. If you have access to your server error log, generate the error again, note the date and time, then immediately check your server error log for any errors that occurred during that time period. If you don’t have access to your server error log, ask your hosting provider to look for you.
