• Hey everyone,

While working on my site this afternoon, I got a 500 Internal server error, and I’m positive it’s from the theme I choose. But the issue is that I can’t even go into my admin page, so how do I change out the theme?

    Any help would be appreciated…
    Danny

  • Delete the bad theme with FTP, but be sure you have a WordPress “default” theme so WordPress has some theme to use.

500 server errors often have something to do with .htaccess files. Did you change permalinks right before the 500 error appeared? That might be why you can’t get to the admin section, because missing a theme will not prevent you from getting to the admin section. If so, delete the .htaccess file via FTP and then you can make it again inside WordPress or with a text editor.

500 Internal server error occurs due to configuration problem either in .htaccess or from server side. you can get the root cause of the problem from your web site error logs. Also, make sure there is no bad line in your .htaccess file.
