500 (Internal Server) Error
-
Hi there!
Here is my story:
I have purchased a hosting plan with GoDaddy last year and hosted a website on that account (passion8mag.org). Now, I want to host a second domain on the account. I had previously purchased (victoriastacey.net) on GoDaddy and wanted to host it under the deluxe hosting account.
I’ve made a subdirectory (passion8mag.org/vickiistace) and had the victoristacey.net hosted there via the GoDaddy control panel. No problems there!
However, I have tried to install wordpress several times. Both manually and through the GoDaddy automatic installation. Everytime I do this and change my permalinks I get the 500 (Internal Server Error).
From what I have read this is an issue with the .htaccess file. Unfortunately I cannot find the file in my file manager or my FTP site, even after forcing it to show hidden files.
I have started from stratch and included a blank .htaccess file in the root of passion8mag.org/vickiistace in hopes that when I change the permalinks it would see that the file already existed, however I still get the 500 (Internal Server) error.
If I do not change the permalinks, nothing goes wrong. Ideally (for SEO purposes and to make them look nicer) I want the permalinks to have the post name in them, but everytime I try to do this, I get the error and have to re-install from stratch.
Any thoughts on where the .htaccess file really might be hidden? Or do I have to call godaddy to help them sort me out? Anyways around that would be helpful since I don’t have all day to sit on the phone with them!
Thanks ??
