• Hi,

Our site was down last week with the 500 internal service error. I was able to log onto our FTP and rename the plugin folder to “plugins1”. Once I did this the site was back up and running.

Now I am trying to figure out what plugin is causing this 500 error. I renamed the plugin folder back to “plugins”. After renaming it back to the original name the site was back to the 500 error.

I was referring to a blog post about the plugin errors and it said once you re-name the plugin back to the original name you should be able to log into wordpress and active each plugin one by one. This is not the case.

Could this be a php memory issue. This happened out of the blue! I am new to this FTP thing.

I am not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !

how many plugins do you have installed+activated?
    which plugins are installed?
    which theme is activated?

renaming plugins folder doesn’t really solve the underlying issue but it can be a start to at least let you back in the dashboard to work on the issue.

I figured out that the wp super cache plugin is causing the issue and have deactivated it.

can i delete this plugin and download it again? Or will I be deleted important files.

    Thanks for your help ??
