As the title says, when I use newer PHP versions above 7.2.34 (this is just the version I happened to be using that works, I haven’t tested all versions), I will get a 500 error when trying to go to the Editor for any page or post.

I ultimately found the issue was caused by having the setting for “Write posts or pages in plain-text Markdown syntax” enabled. Disabling this setting resolves the issue when running in newer PHP.

I’m now running the most up-to-date version of WP (5.7.2) and Jetpack (9.9) along with PHP 7.4 without issue, so long as that setting is disabled.

If anyone has any ideas of how to resolve this issue (as in, being able to enable that setting without causing 500 errors), let me know. Otherwise I guess this thread can just serve as a sort of bug report.

It’s also worth noting that I am using the Avada Theme.

    Hi there

I’ve tested this with WP5.7.2, Jetpack 9.9 and PHP 7.4 on a brand new test site, and I was unable to reproduce the error.

Have you tried switching themes and deactivating any other plugins to rule out a conflict?
