500 Error, Not sure where to look, HELP!

  • I have been getting a random 500 Server Error for the past week +. It seems to be hit or miss and often taking out the www in the address will pull up the site for a time and then, when it starts to act up again putting www back in the address will pull it up.

    Ive asked my community and everyone has been having the issue with the site… this all just started a week or so ago. I can get it when simply trying to browse the site, or even after trying to post a new entry or adjust settings.

    Ive called my host (Yahoo) and they spent a good deal of time testing it out and said they saw no issues.

    Also I should note that I have my domain name registered with GoDaddy and have set the DNS servers with them to direct that addy to my yahoo host.

    My question to you many experts (as I am not), could there be an issue with this setup? I can watch the address bar when I type in the addy and I know within 2 seconds if I will get the error, it seems to get hung up. Could GoDaddy be causing this problem even though they are not hosting my site?

    Any help or direction would be great, I am very frustrated as everything was working fine. Also I did not upgrade anything on my blog during this time.

  • be sure your .htaccess file was uploaded in TEXT mode.

    Using FTP, rename the .htaccess file, copy the contents, and upload from your desktop a new file named htaccess.txt – and then change the file name to: .htaccess

    Ive pulled my site up via FTP and I can not for the life of me find a file named .htaccess

    Where would this file be located? Keeping in mind that Yahoo installs wordpress for us on their system. But what folder should this file be in? Ive looked everywhere in my wordpress folders on the server.. and cant find anything named that
