500 & 503 Errors: Still happening after following common advice
-
Starting March 28, my site has been going down with 500 and 503 errors many times a day. When the site comes up, it loads slowly. I updated to 4.9.5 but have been unable to upload fresh wp-admin & wp-includes. FTP not connecting. I will keep trying.
So far I:
– Re-named the .htaccess file
– Disabled all plug-ins except Akismet, Redirection, Jetpack v6.0 (most Jetpack features are turned off)
– Changed from Coraline theme to Twenty-Seventeen themeThe error log shows the following message hundreds of times:
PHP Warning: mysqli_query(): (HY000/2013): Lost connection to MySQL server during query in /home/valgen001/public_html/nomadicdecorator.com/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 1924
This error still happens after the above changes.
When I talked with our hosting provider they wanted to sell a resource upgrade. But I’m thinking that’s not the problem, and whatever the problem is, once it’s solved the resource usage would go back to previous levels.
What else can I do before hiring someone to look at this?
More detail:
The only change I might have made around March 28 was a setting for Autoptimizer. The 500 and 503 errors continued after I deactivated and deleted Autoptimizer. I don’t remember the exact setting I changed in Autoptimizer now.The CPU and Concurrent Connection Usage charts show spikes in faults and IOPSf (I don’t know what that is?). These have been going on since March 28. They will stop for hours and then start up again.
Thanks for any help!
