• I would like to begin by congratulating WP 5.5 which is indeed faster than any other previous WP. However after the update 2 problems developed which weren’t there before:
1 – When visiting a post, in the comment section it no longer shows the logged in user as logged in, the user has to insert username and email as if he’s logged out.
2 – The theme we use is responsive, heavily customized and it has a responsive menu button with 3 lines which used to show up only when the page viewed was below a certain resolution, now after the update the button shows up on all resolutions and not only that but it doesn’t even work anymore, clicking or tapping on it, does nothing. We don’t know how to fix this from our side as the button was already perfectly functional in previous WP versions. There seems to be a problem with WP 5.5.

Something fundamentally changed in WP 5.5 and hopefully that something will be fixed in the next update 5.5.1… We already tried the plugin trick by disabling all, flushing cache, etc. something changed in the core of 5.5 which is causing this. Until this is fixed in future updates, we’ve downgraded back to 5.4.2.

  • Hi ????

I’m sorry to hear that it’s causing problems.

Something fundamentally changed in WP 5.5 and hopefully that something will be fixed in the next update 5.5.1

I’d be wary of making that assumption – it may not be a bug in the release but a change that has caused issues with older plugins or themes. If I was you, I’d be looking for a solution.

For example, the Beaver Builder plugin have put out an update to fix compatibility issues with WordPress 5.5 (I know this probably doesn’t help you, but I want to give a relevant example here).

We already tried the plugin trick by disabling all, flushing cache, etc.

And what happened? You disabled all plugins and the theme issues were the same? If so, I’d get in touch the theme developer.

We cannot simply change the theme as it defined us for years. This is a heavily customized theme on demand by a technician whom we’ve contracted years ago. The button is not part of the theme, it was added through coding in the theme so this isn’t a theme problem. Something changed in WP5.5 and that something is surely affecting many other users out there and maybe that something needs to be reverted back to what it was rather than expecting thousands of users to go with the flow and adapt. Not everybody has the knowledge, skills and resources to adapt and fix all these problems popping up with new updates…

This temporary fix worked for me –

Update: I see you’ve already done this.

I have not tested “Enable jQuery Migrate Helper” plugin yet but I will in the near future. This plugin would have been handy before we downgraded back to 5.4.2…
I suppose that this will most likely fix problem number 2 since that menu is indeed javascript but I don’t think it can fix problem number 1 though. I dont know why that problem even exists with 5.5… its so strange. jquery-migrate shouldn’t have been turned off in 5.5, I hope they turn it back on in 5.5.1.

I seriously need your help, my site did an autho update getting to my dashboard this morning everything was messed up. All I can see is my them information scattered all around. I can’t even find where to edit or use my backend. This is terrible. Someone should help me with this burg issues on how I can get my usual dashboard back. Thanks

    good luck
