I didn’t install 5.4.0 because of reports that it caused problems. But when 5.4.1 arrived I believed it to be a bugfix. However after installation my woocommerce site was unreachable either for a customer or admin login because attempted access for either resulted in ‘Error establishing database connection’.

After a full cpanel restore my site is working again. I have to say this is not the first time such a problem has occurred with woocommerce.

    Hi @ozviewer,

The error message “Error establishing a database connection” occurs when, for whatever reason, WordPress cannot access the information in the database via PHP commands. This could not even be related to the WooCommerce plugin update but can be due to several reasons. It’s advisable to check the WooCommerce logs and see if any additional details is showing up there.

Having said that, I’m glad to know that you managed to fully restore the connection to the database and your site is now reachable.

Should this error occur again you can follow this article with more information on how to fix the issue.

    Cheers.
