4.2 Update Causes category colors to be too intense

Also all categories now inherit their parent category color

Actually the above is the only problem, my parent categories just happen to be more vibrant versions of sub-category colors.

this seems okay on our test site, do you have sample link to your site with this issue for us to see and analyze?

I was able to resolve the issue bu putting ? character at the beginning of the parent category title. This character sorts after ‘z’ which prevents child categories from inheriting their parent color on full calendar. I had previously been using ~ but for whatever reason the update made ~ stop sorting after ‘z’.
