4.2 Update – 502 error on Ngnix when updating plugins

I manage quite a number of WordPress sites and was in the process of updating to 4.1.2 last week when 4.2 update was released. Immediately after updating core to 4.2, I am now getting a “502 Bad Gateway” page within wp-admin when I try to update any plugins. I am running nginx/1.4.6 (Ubuntu).
Here’s the error in the nginx logs:
