I have tried several iframe plugins. All generate a 406 Not Acceptable error when I try to place the short code into a page.

In the case of the Advanced iFrame plugin, the mere act of filling in the url of the page I want to iframe into the url field of the plugin setup and saving the settings caused this error.

This implies that the problem of the 406 error is not plugin related but comes from some other source.

    Any ideas?

So it does not happen when executing the iframe but when configuring it?

My hosting company made some modification to my account (they didn’t say what) and the problem was resolved. Googling “406 Not Acceptable” leads to discussions about this and apparently there can be more than one cause/solution.
