I’m getting 404s every time I save a custom post. For example, I change a url and view the page. Everything works. The next time I save the same page without making any changes & view the page again. This time I get a 404.
This has been happening pretty consistently & I’m not sure why.

Actually it’s even worse than that. The 404s happen not just after saving, but even just randomly after refreshing a page. I know it isn’t the browser cache because it randomly happens in different browsers & emptying the cache doesn’t make any difference.

    Hi @lilianneb

I am not sure what’s the cause of this issue. Does it happening for the Default PostType or custom PostType?

I have checked this issue on Post but doesn’t happening on my end. Could you please confirm.

    Thanks,
    Sami

Hi, thanks for replying. It happens on custom posts. I found a temporary solution by saving permalinks in wordpress settings -> permalinks after every time I change a url. When I do this, the new permalink seems to hold, if not it leads to 404.

@lilianneb Yes, that’t happening. I’ll try to find out the solution and provide it soon.

Will let you know once, i am done with it.

    Thanks,
    Sami

Are there any updates on this issue. I am finding that whenever I save/update a page that has a slash “/” in the permalink the plugin removes the slash.

    for example:
    location/main-street/store

    becomes:
    locationmain-streetstore

This happens with any page where there is an existing permalink that was manually entered

@lilianneb Please check your issue with latest WordPress and Permalinks Customizer version.

I hope, you won’t found this issue anymore. Please let me know, if you still seeing this issue as i have already this with multiple pages / posts.

@mbaums Please check your permalinks customizer settings maybe slash got removed from there as i can’t see this issue on my end.

    Thanks,
    Sami

Hi Sami, Thanks for looking into the issue.
I don’t see an update available yet…? I have version 2.3.0 from Sept 10, 2018. Has an update been published since then?

    Plugin Author Sami Ahmed Siddiqui

    (@sasiddiqui)

@lilianneb No, there is no update at the moment. I am trying to replicate this issue on WP 4.9.8 and Permalinks Customizer v2.3.0 but doesn’t found it.

So, waiting for your response to release the update of the plugin. Are you still having this issue?

    Regards,
    Sami

Yes I still have the problem using WP 4.9.8. Only on custom posts though

    Hi @lilianneb

I have tried to flush the cache on updating the permalink. Please get the v2.3.1 and verify does it solves your issue or not.

    Thanks,
    Sami

    Hi,
I updated to v2.3.1 & not only is it still happening, it also causes an internal server error because of an incompatibility between WPML & the constant flushing of permalinks.
    :-/

    (@sasiddiqui)

@lilianneb Constant Flushing won’t work anymore. I have removed that rewriting issue for now.

So I wonder if the issue isn’t user permissions. I noticed that when I save custom posts as Administrator I don’t get 404s. When a lower role such as Editor saves the posts they turn into 404s. Maybe something to look into…?

Thanks for providing this detail. Can you check does the Editor contains the Permalinks Permission or not and if not then could you assign the permissions to them?

    Sami

I see these 3 permissions. Do any of them need to be assigned to the editor?
