• Hello there,
I am working on a WordPress site for a client of mine. They set up and installed WordPress through their host Network Solutions and then gave me the access info for the WordPress log in page.

I logged in to the site just fine, installed a WordPress theme and began editing and populating the site. I sent my client a link to the site, and they cannot view it. I even tried having them log in with the info they sent me, and they get a 404 error page every time they attempt to log in.

I have been able to log in on my end just fine. I’ve logged in through 3 different browsers, 3 different computers and 2 different locations, and every time I have been able to get in just fine.

I’m not really sure what to tell them at this point. What would be keeping them from being able to log in from their computers? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

  • I currently have a similar problem which might shed light on your problem.

A site I have had a ton of trouble with with hackers and all sorts. I just deleted all the corrupted files.

I now have a working site but when I enter domain/wp-admin I get 404 page. Is this what your client is getting? Any one know is missing for this to happen?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and ask, could it be a split DNS configuration?

Here’s what I mean: Sometimes business clients using a windows environment/small business server, etc. set up their internal network using businessdomain.com internally, then when they put up a website at businessdomain.com they have trouble reaching it.

What happened is an engineer set their internal DNS to play nicely with www.businessdomain.com a long time ago, but no one remembers this, and now the internal DNS needs to be updated.

The way to check for this is to have them ping businessdomain.com and https://www.businessdomain.com and compare the IP addresses with the ones you are seeing.
