    Hello,

I’ll try to be clear with my dark english ??

If I use /%category%/%postname%/ (structure permalink tags), urls converts in fact from https://domain.com/?p=1 to https://domain.com/category/post-name/. But if I click on this last link I go to a 404 not found error page ?? If I click in https://domain.com/category/ then it works*.

On the other hand, if I use only %postname% to make permalinks, then urls converts to https://domain.com/post-name/, and if I click in this link IT WORKS: I go to the individual post, but the image header of my page disappears… (this image is in domain.com/img/header.jpg, but %postname% tag seems to change the route to domain.com/category/name-of-category/img/header.jpg.

[*but image header dissapears, like second example.]

I read using permalinks but don’t find answer to my problem…

    Did I wrote it understandable?

    Thanks for your attention.

I had a lot of problems with 404’s and permalinks.
Turn off permalinks in options. Upload a blank plain txt file to where you need .htaccess. Remove any old .htaccess file. Rename the plain text file .htaccess. Set 777 on the .htaccess file. Go to your permalinks in options and re-create them.
I found the only way to get it to work properly was to do it from scratch.
    Hope this helps.

Thank you, jpettit, I followed your advice, but nothig change… :-/

This is a known limitation of /%category%/%postname%/ in certain environments. See the following bug report for a workarounds.

hmmmm…looks like a good place to start…at the tail end of another post…
Ok I am getting this 404 error page also but not for permalink.(i think)set permalink for post as shown…
Just installed yesterday and changed the permission on index.php to 666.
added the re_write mod to .htacess but I get the 404 when I view the post which is going to this address: https://www.webdesignslc.com/wordpress/2005/02/28/mistaken-bloke-yer/
All this started from a fresh install before I changed poermissions and added to htaccess, but I believe I was able to view the post once after publishing. I also get an error when I upload(not 404) wheather that makes adifference
    My files are here:
    https://www.webdesignslc.com/wordpress/
Seems I can’t view my data base tables so that’s out,but don’t think that is it.
    Any help out there..??…thanks
