404 to 410

    Hi,

    Had to do a mass delete of some posts and I’ve read that it’s best to redirect 404 to 410 since the post have been permanently deleted. Is there a setting that can do this?

    Hi Sam!

    WordPress treats any request that cannot be queried with a 404-response. This is a perfectly OK and clear signal.

    If we have to output another response type, we’ll have to record plausible 410 queries. Managing those records will slow down your website, cause issues, and requires extra maintenance.

    But, there’s no notable difference between 404 and 410, so we won’t fill your database like other SEO plugins for something redundant.
