• I’m noticing that a WP site using Canvas theme does not render a very nice 404 page. Here is an example when calling for a non-existent page on this site:

    https://foodservicesinc.com/cats

Whereas another WP site, also created with Canvas theme displays in this manner when searching for a non-existent page:

    https://brightring.com/cats

Why does the Food Service page not display the 404 within the template of the theme as the Bright Ring page does?

Hope this makes sense! And thank you!

  • Here is what is happening:

One site has a server level 404 set up. Ask the host of that site about it. The second does not and uses the theme’s 404.php file.

Of course, it may also help to review if both site’s themes have a 404.php. Review theme files, or ask theme providers.

Thank you! Yes, both site’s themes have a 404.php because both sites are using the same theme (Canvas). So, we need to ask the host how to “get around” their server’s 404 setup so that the theme’s 404.php file can display?

    Again – thank you!

    Yes.
