404 Page Question (SEO)

  • Hi all,

    My template has a 404.php. I currently have it set to redirect to the home page. But I have learned that’s not SEO friendly…

    Is it SEO friendlier to redirect it to a custom 404 page I made inside WordPress as a page/post, or should I hardcode on the back end the header, body, footer into this 404.php along with the 404 message?
