• Whenever I attempt to create a new post in WordPress, upon clicking “publish” or “schedule” I receive a 404 Page Not Found error. The URL that appears to be redirected to is /wp-admin/post.php (which does exist in the wp-admin folder). The post is saved as a draft with nothing but the title in place when this occurs. Editing the post and clicking publish yields the same result.

The following have all been done in an attempt to fix the problem:

    1) Deactivation of plugins (there were no plugins running yet so not difficult).
    2) Renaming of plugins folder (even though only the default plugins that ship with WordPress are present).
    3) Turning off of mod_security both in .htaccess and at web host level.
    4) Completely fresh install of WordPress from freshly downloaded copy – including new database (it was a new blog anyway).
    5) Completely fresh install of WordPress, including new database, from Softaculous.

Of note – I have an add-on domain with its own installation of WordPress and that installation works perfectly. It is only the one on my main domain that does not work, no matter what I try.

Most of the solutions I have tried have come from old (read 1 year old or older) threads here in the forums. This issue started in 3.9.1 and I had hoped the upgrade to 3.9.2 would resolve the issue but no such luck.

  • I am having the same issue. It also happens on occasion when attempting to delete or update plugins.

I feel your pain, too. It’s happening–and only recently after I switched hosting services. Wish I knew what happened and why.

sidenote: wordpress forums need a way to search by how recent the post was published. I agree that seeing 4 year old answers to current questions makes me incredulous about their enduring relevance.
